About Our Group Therapy Programs

Group therapy is a cooperative type of psychotherapy where a private group of people meets frequently together, led by one or more qualified therapists. The private group is either based around a specific subject matter that draws interest from people affected by that issue. Or it is based around a certain population of people with something in common, such as age, stage of life, gender, or other self-identifying trait that they all share. Group therapy uses the dynamic of a shared community to advance recovery, unlike in individual therapy. In these meetings, members can exchange their ideas, give and receive helpful advice, and hone fresh social abilities in a real-time, caring context. It’s a place where vulnerability is greeted with empathy, and group awareness helps to support personal development.

Group therapy has been shown in research studies to be effective for a wide range of problems and diagnoses. In addition, people wanting to better their relationship or communication skills, those who find it useful to hear different viewpoints, and those who feel cut off from others by their challenges benefit especially from the group context. A therapy group can be a priceless element of your mental health care if you are experiencing anxiety, depression, the consequences of trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or simply trying to grow personally. It’s like using a special social laboratory to explore fresh ways of thinking and being.

Benefits of Group Therapy

Realizing you are not alone is among the strongest benefits of group therapy. Sharing your story with other people facing comparable obstacles lowers shame and loneliness. This reciprocal understanding forms the groundwork for emotional recovery as it offers a profound sense of meaning and belonging. Sometimes, a support network that spontaneously forms within the group guarantees continuous drive and accountability even beyond the weekly confines of the group itself.

Though peer support is vital, group therapists keep the atmosphere safe, productive, and healing. Our trained therapists learn to direct dialogues, offer clinical observations, and teach particular psychological skills. Controlling group dynamics, fostering respectful communication, and gently motivating participant development enable group leaders to guarantee that every session helps to meet treatment objectives.

Group therapy is more than just talking. It’s about practicing and acquiring knowledge. Designed to teach useful skills, our groups, especially those based on techniques such as Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), teach actual life methods to control your emotions, handle stress, and strengthen your relationships. Long after your group ends, these tools will assist you in creating a more adaptable and satisfying life.

Group Therapy Options at Insight Psychological Group

We offer in-person group therapy sessions in our friendly Westfield and Springfield locations for those who would prefer face-to-face interaction. Direct, personal contact in a relaxed and private environment is the priceless advantage of this option.

We also provide online group therapy to favor accessibility and flexibility. These virtual sessions let you meaningfully engage in therapeutic work from the privacy of your own home. Our online groups also allow clients throughout all of New Jersey to partake of this kind of therapy even if they are too far to drive to our offices. Like our in-person options, our online group treatment in New Jersey adheres to the same demanding degree of confidentiality and expert facilitation.

Our NJ therapy support groups are created to tackle particular problems and life stages. From group therapy for anxiety and depression to specialized groups for men, betrayal trauma, or OCD, we build focused settings where participants may delve deeply into shared issues under professional supervision.

Current Group Therapy Offerings

Here is an overview of some of the specialized mental health treatment groups we offer on a rotating schedule at Insight Psychological Group:

Men’s Anxiety Group Therapy

A supportive space for men in New Jersey to discuss and talk openly about stress, anxiety, and social demands. In a confidential setting, this group emphasizes discovering effective coping strategies, increasing one’s emotional vocabulary, and peer support.

Online Anxiety Support Group

For adults (21+) with general anxiety or related issues, this is an ongoing, therapist-led virtual group. Sessions are organized around topics such as grounding techniques, self-care, triggers, boundaries, and coping mechanisms. Peer support helps members feel less isolated every Thursday evening.

Online Depression Therapy Group

This group focuses on triggers of mood episodes, self-care, interpersonal boundaries, and mindfulness. The community that develops in this group cultivates a sense of shared experience, hope, and helps to stop the cycle of isolation sometimes linked to depression.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group (Virtual and In-person)

DBT is a structured treatment approach that focuses on four main components: distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Each week, the group speaks about one of the four components and learn skills on how to use these techniques in their day-to-day life.

Betrayal Trauma Therapy Group

A trauma-informed therapy group for those recovering from the deep wounds of betrayal in a relationship. This safe and secure setting helps one to heal from trauma, restore self-esteem, and grow resilience, while learning from others who have similar stories to tell.

The Keys to Solving Your OCD

This is an 8-week psychoeducation group offered to individuals 18+, of any gender, for those with a diagnosis of OCD or those who suspect they have OCD. Group members will learn to identify common symptoms and subtypes of OCD, understand types of evidence-based treatments for OCD, and learn a variety of effective coping strategies to manage and decrease OCD symptoms.
