At some point in their adult life, one in forty individuals will receive a diagnosis of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, commonly referred to as OCD. Many of these individuals go several years, often a decade or more, between symptom onset and official diagnosis from a mental health professional. Individuals often do not recognize their experiences as OCD or are fearful of seeking help sooner due to the stigma associated with OCD. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder can present itself in a variety of ways, including obsessive/intrusive thoughts, and compulsive behaviors or rituals in an attempt to relieve the anxiety that accompanies OCD symptoms. Left untreated, OCD can sometimes grow worse over time and can greatly impact one’s quality of life. Oftentimes, supplemental support or other resources are needed outside of individual therapy.
What is this group about?
Our Keys to Solving your OCD course is an 8-week psychoeducation group offered to individuals 18+, of any gender, for those with a diagnosis of OCD or those who suspect they have OCD. Group members will learn to identify common symptoms and subtypes of OCD, understand types of evidence-based treatments for OCD, and learn a variety of effective coping strategies to manage and decrease OCD symptoms. Brief group activities will be facilitated to enhance group members’ learning experience and ability to utilize the skills discussed. While this is not a process group, the group will provide an opportunity for members to come together to learn and hear each other as they break the stigma of OCD and enhance their recovery process.
